Toto....."We're not in Wisconsin any more."

Since being here since September, we have found that some things just are not said or called the same down here in Tennessee.  And if they are called the same, sometimes they need repeating because of the Southern drawl that comes with them when spoken.

One that just cracks me up is "wreck".  Now, in Wisconsin we called one or more cars colliding an accident, collision or crash. Not down here.....down here it's called a WRECK!

Another is "Get'r Done".  In other words, get moving, get off your butt, and skip the excuses.

I love talking to people here in Tennessee. Now, I guess some women would be offended by the way they might be referred to but to me....I find it charming. "Hon", "Sweet Pea", "Darlin".  And if you are a man, you will hear "Partner" a lot.

The names of some items are different down here too.....

As you can see, down here they call these Sandwich buns. In Wisconsin, they are Hamburger buns. I guess that makes sense though because, you CAN use these for more than just hamburgers. I think I've even used one for a peanut butter and jelly sandwich when we ran short of bread. Bottom line....bread is bread.  I don't know what the "Pan Para" means but I think it might be French which would be kind of comical being sold in Tennessee.

My all time favorite line which, in Wisconsin we would say...."I've done this before"....is "This is not my first rodeo"!  I actually caught myself saying this on the phone one day while speaking with our health insurance company. It just slipped out so fast and was received with a silent pause on the other end of the phone. I think I was calling Ohio or Minnesota which explains that.

I will have to make a note of some of the other "Southerisms" when they come up in our everyday life down hear and get back to you with more!
