Cold Temperatures vs. Crops
On Wednesday night we had VERY cold temperatures here in Tennessee. Not, just a frost warning but COLD temperatures. That combination is deadly for gardens. We had it covered but as you can see, it didn't work. We lost our tomato plants, cucumbers and green beans. In fact, when we went shopping yesterday any plants that might have been outside in front of a store got hit too. Plus the top of several of our bushes turned black. The worst outcome of this was four baby robins froze to death in their nest in one of our trees. We don't know where the mom was but these little ones didn't have a chance. Very sad to see happen.
However some of our other plants did really well. This is one of four rose bushes I planted and they all survived really well along with our pansy patch. Grandpa has already replanted the tomatoes, put in some green peppers and planted more bean seeds. Because we are leaving on Wednesday for a week's visit in Wisconsin, he wanted to get the replanting done before we left. According to the weather forecasts coming up, it's suppose to stay warm for a while.
Hopefully, nothing drastic will happen while we are gone but if it does, we'll just start all over again. Nobody expected what happened. Our neighbor lost quite a few of his banana trees.
Just another reminder that Mother Nature is in charge!
