They arrived on Saturday and I was so excited when Grandpa said they were in the garage. I hurried in there to check them out and there laid ten STICKS in a plastic bag. These couldn't be our trees, could they? But, they were. I guess I was expecting more....then again, they did cost only about $10 to purchase, right? I guess you can't get 8 foot trees for that kind of money...so I learned.
Then the planting began. Figuring out where to plant them (agreeing and disagreeing on the lot line), digging holes, lugging top soil, marking them with REAL sticks and then finally watering them. Now, only we would be planting trees on one of the hottest days so far this season, but there we were. Three hours later, we had the little trees in the ground, watered and marked. I have to admit that after we were done, I was rather pleased by the good job we did.
Our yard now has 10 new trees. Someday someone will enjoy them when they reach their maturity and beauty but it won't be us; we will be long gone by then. But, that's ok, it's enough to know that we did our part to 'save the earth'. Yeah, whatever.
