Updated Laundry Room

Any of you who know me know that it really does not take a lot to excite me. It's those little things like having a dishwasher once again and.....not having to walk down stairs to the basement to wash clothes. I don't like stairs....when we were looking for our new home in Tennessee, I vetoed any home where we had to climb stairs to get into the house or get to our bedroom. Yes, we have stairs up to our deck, but we also can get to our deck from the patio door off the dining area so that's fine.

So, this laundry room on the same level as everything else was a dream come true! However, the washer and dryer that Shelly had was no longer doing the job. The washer did not spin enough so it sometimes took two spins in the dryer to dry clothes. I couldn't handle that....it made me nuts. It was also too small for a house with three adults and three kids.....I'm sure I don't have to elaborate on how fast the dirty clothes accumulate. Now, I do our (mine and Grandpa') laundry just once a week but Shelly seemed to be on an endless trip to the laundry room. Plus the washer and dryer was harvest gold...you know, from the 60's so we NEEDED to update because when Grandma isn't happy, nobody is happy!

Here they are. We've had them for a while and let me tell you.....they give a whole new meaning to doing the laundry. It's fun and when you can say that about laundry day, you know you've done something right. Look at these beauties!! Oh, and the first shot of our 'laundry room' verses the 'washer and dryer in the basement'. Sometimes I just visit the laundry room just to look at the shiny white enamel and all the storage cabinets. When I took these pictures, there were clothes tumbling in the dryer, as you can see....probably kids clothes no doubt.

And, look at the control panels on these laundry wonders!!! I mean, it almost looks like the cockpit panel of a jet plane. We have a setting for anything you could possibly need. And....look, no turning knobs. All push buttons! Our old ones had the knobs; in fact, when we left Milwaukee, our washer had a busted off knob so I really was not upset to leave it behind.

One thing that we are all having fun with is listening to the little 'music' sound that it plays when the washer or dryer have finished their cycles. It's not a 'blast' or a loud 'beep' or 'buzzer'. They actually play a little tune. It's so pleasant....almost like they are saying "Your clothes are ready....have a nice day". One day I dried a load of clothes but didn't hear it. I was crushed! Was it already broken? Do we need to call the repair man? I was not going to live without my dryer music. So, I dragged out the book and discovered that you can turn the sound off if you want to....although, I don't know why anyone would WANT to turn it off. Well, with pressing all the buttons on the panel, I had accidentally turned off the music. Needless to day, I rectified that immediately and all was well in 'dryer land'.

Another plus that the washer has a HUGE tub and no agitator! I have to admit, this took some getting used to....I mean I have had an agitator in my washing machines for 40 years. So, when I started putting clothes in this one, I had to break the habit of putting them around in a circle...like I was fitting them around the agitator. I giggled at myself several times at that. Also, this washing machine has a 'brain'....no, really. You put the clothes in and IT decides what size load you have. Once you close the lid, the tub shakes and shimmy's calculating what size load it is and how much water you need. I have to admit that I was awestruck the first time I saw that happen! Also, once you close the lid and hit the 'start/pause' button, it automatically locks (like the dryer) which is nice in a household with kids. But, the 'pause' can be used if we want to add something we forgot. But the size of this tub is great.....you would not believe how many kids clothes you can fit in here at one time not to mention king size quilts!

Needless to say, I don't mind doing the laundry like I used to. Like I said, it's those 'little things' that make the world go around and keeps Grandma happy!
