As some of you know, I'm back into quilting after almost 30 years. It all started with a Quiltfest held in Pigeon Forge last fall. I enrolled in a two-day class on picking out fabric colors for a quilt. Needless to say, I learned a lot and since have had sooooo much fun picking out fabrics. Years ago, I wouldn't have dreamed of placing one print fabric right next to the other. But now, it's like second nature and has opened up a whole new world for my. Even Shelly who once told me that I shouldn't ever pick out fabric because I was lousy at it has to admit that I've come a long way.
Well, after a short time of lifting the sewing machine onto the kitchen table and then back off again at meal time, I decided that was not going to work if I wanted to really be productive. So, Grandpa bought me a table which we set up at the end of our bedroom. Our bedroom is pretty long and it fit perfectly on one end and right in front of a window. Not only do I get the sunlight to work by but get to watch the bird feeders in our back yard. As you can see, it works perfectly. And when I want to stop for a while, all I have to do is leave everything the way it is and close the door.
This is my growing fabric stash. Most of what is seen here is being turned into quilts for the grand kids. I have had great luck purchasing fabric on eBay and have gotten some real deals. I have also discovered our local JoAnn Fabrics; not to mention the local quilt shops. Let me tell you....it does not take you long to get addicted to buying fabric. I suppose it's that way with any craft or hobby a person might have. I remember when I was scrapbooking....the STUFF I had!!! Madison inherited a lot of it since she has a great time making scrapbooks.
I make great use of our bedroom floor as you can see whether it be to sort fabrics for a project or lay out a pattern that I am working on. Again, I can just walk out and close the door and I don't have to worry about stuff being stepped on or messed up.
So, now you know what I've been up to. I have one quilt front done (Izzy's), working on the second (John's) and have the fabric put together for the other three.
Then again, I still check in with eBay and will not hesitate to jump on a real deal. You never know what I may need down the road when another quilt idea hits me.
Note: A special thank you to Grandpa for being so supportive with my new hobby. He too, has learned where the local quilt shops are and does not hesitate to print me out coupons for JoAnn's if he finds them on line.
