When I got back into quilting after moving to Tennessee, I had a goal to make a quilt for each of our grandchildren. From that thought, I knew I definitely wanted to get Isabelle and John's finished first so I could send them for Christmas. I want each quilt to truly represent the grandchild that it is being made for so that was the first step....picking out the fabric that would be 'just right'.
When I thought of Isabelle, I thought PINK, PURPLE along with FAIRIES and BALLERINAS. When I started to cut the fabric for her quilt, I just could not find ballerina fabric that was perfect to add to her quilt. Then I found it.....on Ebay, no less. In fact, that started my journey of being an avid fabric shopper on Ebay where I have also collected fabrics for the other four quilts in the making. Unfortunately, I had the top of her quilt completed before I found it but really wanted her to be surprised with the ballerina fabric. So, the tiny pillow was created and the ballerina fabric is front and center on it. Isabelle will not be without her ballerinas.
I also wanted to 'tag' the quilts with something special. These Made by Grandma tags have been around for a long time. In fact, I used them on all the baby afghans I made for each of them. But I wanted to add something more. While shopping, I found these tiny little heart buttons in different colors and came up with the idea making them part of the tags. I think of it as my own 'personal touch' added to the works of art that I am creating.
John's will be full of dinosaurs which he is crazy about. I have his pillow (if Izzy gets one, so does John) finished along with the top. I am waiting for more of his backing fabric (dinosaur footprints) to come; ordered from....where else....Ebay. I do have some, but his turned out just a little bigger than Izzy's because of the quilt block pattern I used. I will have to piece his back together but that won't be a problem.
When I look at these quilts that I have finished so far, I see where the workmanship could be better. But.....you know, they won't see that. Izzy will see fairies, stars and PINK and John will see the TRex, Teradactal, and their footprints. Once I realized that fact and cut myself some slack, they have become so much more fun to work on and I'm looking so forward to finishing up the other ones.
Happy Quilting!
Just a note: Lexi's theme is monkeys (Shelly is always calling her a little monkey) and her top is finished, Madison's is cats and/or kittens and Trinity's will be love, peace signs and a flash back from the 60's.
Very pretty! Good job Barb.
