Nearly 40 years ago, Great-Grandma Scherrer started making quilts for her grandchildren as they were born. She has six grandchildren and all of them are girls; Michele and Rebecca (our daughters), Jennifer and Jessica (sister, Chris's, daughters), Melissa (brother, Bill's, daughter) and Kelly (sister, Bonnie's, daughter). When she made these quilts for the girls, she put a lot of time and love into them, especially because she hand-tied them. There was no machine quilting that many years ago; you did it the 'old-fashioned' way.
Well, now that Great-Grandma is in her 80's, I decided it was her turn to have a hand-made, hand-tied quilt of her own. So........
I just finished her quilt today. If you look closely, you might be able to see that all the corners of this quilt are hand-tied; 259 ties to be exact. She is in a nursing home and watches T.V. in her recliner so this is a lap-sized quilt to keep her snug and warm while she watches her favorite programs. I hope to travel to Wiscosin with my sister, Chris, in the near future to see her and deliver this gift. Can't wait to see her face when she receives a quilt of her own.
The last photo is a tag that says "Made With Love By" and I printed my name on it. The tag also has two tiny little button hearts on it.....I put tiny buttom hearts on all the quilts I make as my trademark.
But, it's not just from me. It's from all of her own children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
And, my biggest wish is that this quilt gets passed down in my family for many years; making memories as it gets older. Afterall, memories are our greastest treasures.
