Grandpa and I headed to the Tennessee Department of Transportation to apply for our Tennessee driver's licenses. This was our return visit. We went last week but did not have the proper identification to apply. We had to prove we were citizens......well, gee, we had our Wisconsin driver's licenses. I find it hard to believe that wasn't sufficient. So, we were handed this list of items that would prove that we are REAL citizens. I was very tempted to ask if they would take our first-born child, but I then I figured that once they found out she came with three kids, they would decline. On this list of items, passports were listed. We are lucky because we have those because of our trip to Mexico years ago. So, we headed back yesterday and came away with our nifty new Tennessee licenses. No, I am NOT posting photos of them. In all the years of driving (which are many in my case) and different licenses, the photo they took has to be the worst ever! In fact, if I'm ever pulled over by a cop, deputy or mounty (they have those down here), I would be embarrased to even turn it over to them when requested........for fear of getting a chuckle even though I'm sure they are trained not to do that whey they are rookies.
One thing I really like about getting a new license.....it's the one time you can lie about your weight and you can't get caught or even feel guilty. I mean, it's not like they're going to throw you on a scale to verify what you put down. So, I chose to knock off 20 lbs. and got to feel skinny for one day! Besides, I think that's a 'moot' point anyway...let's think about that for a minute. The license is good for years. Now, anyone of us who are of the 'diet' generation know that our weight can fluctuate from one year to another...heck, from one week to another. So, I think if you put a weight down that's within reason, it's acceptable. It's like hair color. I always put down brown even if it's highlighted blond. When it does turn completely gray, I will break down and check that box. Until that time, it's my call.
Seriously readers......it is is very good idea to apply for a passport. In this day and age of homeland security, it is the one form of I.D. that is asked for. Even if you never travel overseas, you can still apply and get a passport and it just might come in handy someday.......it seems to be the 'ultimate' form needed these days. It's not hard to do and could be worth your while.
