Decorating for Christmas
Since we live with three of our grandchildren, decorating for the holidays has a whole new meaning. I mean, when we shop for decorations in the stores, the first thing that I think of when I see something interesting is "the kids would love this....or not?" If it passes that test, then it's probably going to make it into the cart and into our home.
FINALLY......the collected Kmart bears are being played with, cuddled and I do believe, they are smiling more than during previous years. In our small livingroom in Milwaukee, it was really crowded when they would make their annual appearance. Grandpa used to joke that when he walked into the room, he could feel all the 'eyes looking at him'. Last year when I brought them out, Lexi wasn't a year old yet and spent most of her time in her jumpy seat. She really didn't pay much attention to the bears. Quite the different story this year! Hers eyes were so big when she first saw the pile sitting there. She was a little hesitant at first to touch them but when she realized that they were to be played with, a huge smile broke out on her face. Even Trinity and Madison got into the fun.
Our Christmas tree is like a history lesson. From ornaments made by Great Grandma Scherrer back in the 70's and 80's to the creations by Trinity and Madison of their first years in school. Every ornament has a story and the girls never get tired of hearing about the older ones. Our topper decided not to work this year so we improvised and used a Santa hat off of one of the bears. Whatever works!
When you look at our house from the street with the lights on bushes, trees and along the walkway along with the colorful reindeer flag flying in the breeze, you just know that kids live here. And if that doesn't convince you, all you have to do it walk through the front door.
Yes, Christmas is for kids.....of all ages!
