One Proud Momma!!
Madison, our 8 year-old granddaughter, competed in her first spelling bee yesterday. Needless to say, she was awesome and came in 3rd place out of 42...3rd and 4th graders! This win entitles her to go with the two winners of her school to the county level spelling bee as an alternate. Her 'nerve-wracked mom and sister, Trinity, sat in the audience clutching each other as Madison kept going. Even the others watching were cheering her on at the end when she was up against two other 3rd grade boys who towered over her by inches! In fact, my nick name for her is 'Tinkerbell'. Her mom kept me posted via text as the rounds went on and Madison pounded out curiosity, calendar (with an 'a') and others. She even spelled bestcase.....I didn't even know that was a word!Per The Mountain Press newspaper........
'......Finally it came down to the all-third-grade trio of Smith, Franklin and Sutton. All spelled confidently to that point, and Smith appeared to be a crowd favorite: The audience gasped in hushed admiration after she nailed "courtesy" in round five. But Smith later faltered on "purification" leaving Franklin and Sutton to battle it out for the last few rounds......'The photo of Madison in this newspaper is priceless. She is standing at the microphone...'imagining the word in her head as she spells her way to third place'.
So, she's off to the county battle as an alternate. And, I'm sure if she has to step in for one of the boys, she will again be a crowd favorite!
Congratulations Tinkerbell !!
